Favourite Books: page 1 | Books to Read | Recently Read | More Words | Home

This is a list of my all time favourite books. In an effort to limit the amount listed, I am excluding
countless books that I really liked, and showing only the ones which absouately blew me away,
as well as the books that changed the way I think. Sometimes I've listed just one or two books
from a series, if you're serious about reading the books I'd recommend reading the entire series.
I can help you do so with my next page!

Author: Adams, Richard Book(s): Watership Down
This was one of my favourite books when I was young. I still think it's amazing. I'd recommend it to anyone.
Author: Burnett, Francess Hodgeson Book(s): The Secret Garden, A Little Princess
I had to include her because I enjoyed these two books so much when I was younger. I remember the day that I read The Secret Garden all in one day, I was so proud!
Author: Card, Orson Scott Book(s): Ender's Game, Ender's Shadow
I only listed these two for him, but I have to say that just about every single book of his that I've read has affected me deeply, leaving me happier and more tolerant of people around me. His characters are incredibly real, and as soon as I think I've got one of them pegged as "a bad guy" he manages to turn it around so that again I have sympathy for them. I unreservedly recommend his books to just about anyone.
Author: Dean, Pamela Book(s): Tam Lin
After reading this book.. well, I immediately read it again. I have read it many times, and continue to be inspired by it.
Author: Heinlein, Robert Book(s): Stranger in a Strange Land, Time Enough For Love
I had to think for a long time about whether or not to include Heinlein. His books are certainly Science Fiction classics, but whether or not they are books that I'd recommend to everyone I'm not quite sure. I certainly enjoyed them, and I finally decided to include them because they have, for better or for worse, very much influanced my thinking. For the better, I believe. However, if you are uptight about sexuality you might not enjoy them. <grin>
Author: Herbert, Frank Book(s): Dune
An amazing book, an amazing series, rich of detail and worthy of reading again and again. I get more out of it every time I read it.
Author: McKinley, Robin Book(s): Beauty, The Blue Sword, The Hero and the Crown
I have to say, I love anything she writes, and the fact that she hasn't written much makes me treasure her books all the more. These are my current favourites of hers.
Author: Montgomery, Lucy Maud Book(s): Anne of Green Gables, The Blue Castle, Jane of Lantern Hill
I certainly have been influanced by these books. I think I try to be like Anne, she seems to be so fulfilled and happy as a person, and a wonderful friend or mother. L.M. Montgomery as a person sounds really interesting as well, she was brought up by her grandparents in Prince Edward Island, Canada, and seems to have a lot in common with her characters.
Author: Sawyer, Robert Book(s): Calculating God
I just read this book a month or so ago, and was so amazed by it that I immediately went out and made my entire family read it, and even bought it as Christmas gifts for a couple of people. It's the first book of his that I've read, though I've seen him a couple of times, and I can't wait to read more!
Author: Robinson, Spider Book(s): Stardance, Starmind, Callahan's Key, Lifehouse
I have had the good fortune to meet Spider (and his wife Jeanne) a couple of times, and am amazed by how much he seems to enjoy life. When I read his books I am so inspired, and so hopefull about the state of the world and my own life and humanity and all that sort of stuff... even though I can't always figure out exactly he's saying to make me feel that way. I come away from his books feeling uplifted and inspired.
Author: J.R.R. Tolkien Book(s): Lord of the Rings
This would have been on my list even if the movie hadn't come out - I've loved these books for a long time. Thank you so much Stephen, for encouraging me to read them and even buying me the set!
